Peace Park Work Day An update by Sarah Sweetwater 11/08/06

TREES PUT DOWN ROOTS IN ELKO PEACE PARK

Elkoer, City Park personnel, and numerous volunteers ranging in age from 4 years old to 70+. One family even brought their dog to participate in this pet friendly park.

Once the trees were planted, volunteers from the Juvenile program continued to work along with director, Cheri Cole. They cleared sage, rabbit brush and debris from the 66-foot diameter of the Labyrinth to give a visual footprint for the design. The labyrinth, designed by Sarah Sweetwater, is only one of several features that will become a part of this natural setting. An amphitheatre will be cut into the hill on the northeast side of the Labyrinth to create a space for performances.

Sweetwater completed a 48-foot brick labyrinth for the Renaissance Sculpture Park in Ely, Nevada in 2005 and reports, ealth and well being. Unlike a Maze, the Labyrinth has no dead-ends or hedges to obscure the way. It is a metaphor for life, a walk leading us to our center.throoms; wedwell 753- 8572, email us at friends@elkopeacepark.org or make a donation on-line by visiting us at www.elkopeacepark.org.
